I'm so giddy it's stupid. I don't care what anyone says, I love these movies. All of them. Even the awful ones, so basically all of them. Shut up.
This new one, the 13th in the series, has been written by the same guy who wrote the excellent "Prisoners", so that's something. And Breck Eisner (The Crazies reboot) will be directing. I'm so happy.
So apparently due to the box office disappointment of Rings, which opened at number 2 with 13 million, production on the new Friday the 13th has been shut down. WTF!? Friday would almost certainly make 40 plus million opening weekend, and there is no reason for one of these movies to have a budget higher than 5 million at the most. And how the hell is Paramount disappointed with Rings, they quietly cut the film back to a limited release just a few weeks before it released. What did they expect!? I'm so mad right now. It should not be this difficult to give us fans a decent Friday sequel.
Great to see you're still around too, I've been lurking for a few years, never really seen any reason to post. I guess only a few of us have an affinity with the 80s-90s horror genre, particuarly Halloween and Friday 13th, haha. They'll always be my fav films, so any news of those "franchises" coming back always excites me.
21Million to make a Friday 13th film? Really, Paramount?
I dread Jason going back to New Line, but I suppose they'll produce something... something bad is my bet.

Agreed. Give a million to a director who is a FAN of the franchise and let him go nuts. There's no way it wouldn't turn a profit. WTF is Paramount doing?
The 2009 film was budgeted at $19 Million. IMO, it was actually a pretty decent flick.
Based on what I read about the new script they were running with, it sounded pretty weak to me, so maybe that had a lot to do with pulling it at this time.

It should not be very difficult to come up with a good Friday script. Teenagers are murdered by Jason at Camp Crystal Lake. Boom. That's the plot. Couldn't be anymore simple.
The campground (which has been without incident since Jason Goes to Hell or Jason Takes Manhattan, writer's choice) is between seasons. Former counselors break into the campground to throw a party since the place is empty. Yada Yada Yada...Jason comes back and kills everyone.
So many great visuals with that. Jason pops out of the frozen lake. Somebody is killed with an ice skate. Somebody else with a snowmobile, etc.
It would be a cool way to retread old stories, but in a new way.
Also, aside from the fake out in the first 20 mins of the 2009 reboot, I did not care for that film.
