big fan of the State guys, so I figured I'd read this script. Liked the last script I read by these guys ("I Hate You Dad").
I'm 20 pages deep and so far, this isn't funny, but I know Paul Rudd is the perfect actor for this role. I always enjoy reading script in production so I know exactly what voice to read in. I guess that's kinda cheating, but it's definitely easier. Besides, so far this script isn't very descriptive.
oh, and I'm obviously not Wain or Marino, but I feel like I'd get massacred for this -
"EXT. RURAL DIRT ROAD - SOMWHERE IN GEORGIA - NIGHT
They're driving down the road." There's a bunch of action lines like this.
-Pretty generic inciting incident - fired from job, have to move.
-Group pot smoking scene -- this is a movie about a commune basically, with a bunch of hippies, so you expect it... but it's one of those "whoa, dude open up your mind!" scenes that's been done 1000 times.
-They jump right into the story, arrive at the place well before most scripts would have(around page 30) The main characters accept their new life almost instantly, seems a bit rushed, imo.
-Holy crap 5 page dialogue scene around a table... but it's pretty funny.
-relying pretty heavily on a naked guy for laughs. wonder if it'll actually be that way in the movie.
-good freak out at the end of Act 2, Rudd's gonna kill it.
I dont really know what else to say. i dont want to lay the plot out and spoil anything. Solid script, will make for a good movie that will come and go from theatres and probably be a cult hit.
I'm sure the film will be different from the script though as one of the major plots revolves around Walmart, and this has a strong cast and i cant imagine certain actors not getting more shine than they did in the script.
shoulda watched this before
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz7xMY1AbbI -- definitely different in some parts. Trailer looks better and funnier than the script actually.
