Gary! Drops in after who-knows-how-long off and shows us all how it's done!
Nice job.
Congrats to Kevin for the option. Sweet!
Also, Anthony...Freshbloom was my top scorer. Great script. Super tight.
Good job everybody on a great challenge. And, thanks for all the comments on Sunshine.

Welp. This was completely unexpected! I honestly didn't even know about the challenge until the day the scripts were due! But I had actually heard the Gambler on the radio earlier that day, and for some reason it just stuck with me and I wrote something out as quick as I could.
Very humbled by everyone's votes especially given the absolutely quality of the work entered in this one. Was amazed at how good so many of these scripts were so a shout out to everyone, especially to Kevin for getting optioned -- hopefully others will get picked up as well -- there are many worthy candidates for producers out there looking to make a quality film.
Also -- I told Paul I thought his script was one of the more original scripts I had seen on this site, and something totally different from I'm used to reading of his. He continues to amaze me with his work. |
| Some of my scripts:
Bounty (TV Pilot) -- Top 1% of discoverable screenplays on Coverfly I'll Be Seeing You (short) - OWC winner The Gambler (short) - OWC winner Skip (short) - filmed Country Road 12 (short) - filmed The Family Man (short) - filmed The Journeyers (feature) - optioned

Well done, all!!
And to Kevin, that's awesome news!
Gary, yours was the only script I forgot to read, so when I voted, having not read it, I only gave it a middling vote, but then I read it and was like "oh shit, this is much better than the vote I gave it!" So, I'm glad yours came out on top as it was my personal favorite of this batch of fine scripts!

Congrats, Gary! Well deserved. And to Kevin, nice one! Special shoutout to Max as well. The Great Pretender cracked me up, such a priceless line from Mum. Wow, I got 3 guesses right. Ant will be chuffed I wasn't anywhere near onto his. This was terrific fun. Thank you, Arundel (and Don, of course). |

Well, she guessed mine and even added a “duh” LOL. I have apparently become too transparent. I won’t be so evident next time, Libby. Game on! Seriously though, big congrats to Gary - really loved your story. Well deserved Writers’ Choice to you! Also to Kevin L - wow! Optioned already! That is just awesome! Many congrats and can’t wait to see this once it’s filmed. And lastly, congrats to all the OWC writers who submitted. As others have noted, there was overall excellence displayed in the scripts this go round. Enjoyed each script and appreciate all the thought and work that goes into creating these. Kudos to all! Congrats Gary! Well deserved!
Many thanks to everyone who reviewed my script. Thanks for the well wishes on the option. A university's film/television department is preparing to make a short film for festivals as their senior project. IF it gets made, I will def post it.
No matter what happens, I appreciate Don forwarding my info. That was very thoughtful since I'm not a very active site member. |

Smashed it Gary! Nice one, Gambler was my favourite. Not cool that you can just whip that out at the last minute though PK - That was such a cool script you wrote. Really enjoyed this challenge. |

I'm late to the party, but I have to congratulate Gary for his cool story and to Paul for breathing down his neck in the final vote count. Great scripts! Kevin L., wow, nice job on getting your script optioned. Also a nod to all who submitted stories. Loved the variety and creativity. Thanks to all who read my submission and given such excellent feeedback. Thank you, Don, for always providing us with a platform to develop our skills. Arundel, nice job on selecting a theme. How did you come up with such a unique challenge? Thank you for also keep it at a five page limit. Nice turnout. |
